The Namibian government’s new decree would limit public gathering drastically as the country struggles to contain the spread of Covid-19.

According to the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the southern African country has recorded the highest number of new cases per million people per day with over 1,200 detected on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Namibia’s President, Hage Geingob who had contracted the virus last month alongside his wife, described the spike in cases as very worrisome.

He asked that the people make sure take the restrictions seriously to avoid overwhelming the country’s health system.

The restrictions would limit public gatherings to 10 persons per gathering.

In addition, all contact sports will be banned and face-to-face teaching in schools will be suspended till at least the end of June.
