3.9M COVAX: Abia, Ebonyi, Borno, Kaduna Receive Vaccine


Four other states have received doses of 3.94 million Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 given to Nigeria.

The four states got a total number 358, 920 doses of the vaccine– Abia, 61,320; Ebonyi, 42,090; Borno, 75,510; Kaduna, 180,000.

The Nigerian government had received 3.94 million COVAX- a vaccine co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF, the World Bank, civil society organisations, manufacturers, and others.

Distribution in Abia

Pillar Lead, Abia State Infection, Prevention & Control for COVID-19, Dr Okorie Onuka has dispelled insinuations in some quarters that the COVID-19 vaccine is a mark of the Anti-Christ and a ticket for eternal damnation in hell.

Dr Onuka who stated this during a World Health Organisation, WHO-assisted workshop for media practitioners on the COVID-19 vaccine dismissed promoters of the rumour as conspiracy theorists.

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu who received the consignment was later vaccinated against the deadly virus.

He dismissed the insinuation as an untenable conspiracy theory being peddled by some religious fanatics to dissuade people from getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Distribution in Ebonyi

In Ebonyi State, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike, said that the team from the state Ministry of Health was currently in Enugu to take delivery of 42,090 doses of the vaccine allotted to the state.

He said the ministry, after taking delivery of the vaccine, would commence the vaccination immediately

Distribution in Borno

Borno State government received a total of 75,510 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the federal government.

Receiving the vaccine, which arrived in Maiduguri International Airport at exactly 9pm on Monday, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Usman Kadafur, said the state will begin the administration of the vaccine to residents

Distribution in Kaduna

Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said the state government has received 180,000 doses of the vaccine from the federal government.

The governor who announced this at the Government House during the presentation of 2020 security report publicly took the vaccine yesterday to encourage residents.
