Only One Network Provider Recoded Increase In July

Latest report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has shown that Globacom (Glo) was the only network that recorded an increase in its subscriber base in July, 2021.

This was according to the monthly subscribers’ report for July published on its website.

NCC indicated that Glo moved from 50,130,540 in June, to 51,137,799 at the end of July thus growing its subscriber base by 1,007,259 new subscribers.

However, in the case of MTN and Airtel which had reductions in the number of their voice customers during the period, while 9mobile recorded the same figure. 

According to the regulator, MTN moved down from 73,571,192 in June, to 73,123,732 in July, losing 447,460 subscribers, same with Airtel which lost 364,486 subscribers, falling from 50,665,723 in June, to 50,301,237 in July.

For 9mobile, its subscriber base remained at 12, 908,092 as it was in June.

Glo, according to the report, also led the way in the number of customers surfing the net during the period, and added a total of 338,189 new data customers, having moved from 37,875,966 in June, to 38,214,155 in July.

Also, data showed that MTN had 59,594,891 million subscribers browsing the internet on its network in June, compared to the figure of 59,008,651 in July. Effectively, the operator recorded a decrease of 586,240 internet subscribers.

Airtel’s internet subscriber base nosedived from 36,235,905 in June, to 36,053,223, losing 182,682 data customers at the end of July. For 9mobile, the internet subscriber figure remained the same 6,108,151 as it was in May and June, according to the NCC report.
