Nigeria would receive 470,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from the Chinese government, according to China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, CUI Jianchun.
CUI Jianchun made the donation to the Nigerian Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, in Abuja, on Friday, July 23, 2021.
According to the Ambassador, the gesture is a result of the good relationship between both countries, and China’s desire to help Nigeria as much as it can due to its population and size.

The Chinese Ambassador however warned against politicizing issues surrounding COVID-19 or blaming China for the outbreak, rather, collaborations should be worked out on ways to eliminate the disease.
“COVID-19 is a health issue. We need cooperation. We need unity to overcome COVID-19,“ the Ambassador said.
He added that the Chinese government is willing to support Nigeria with vaccine production in the nearest future.
Responding, the Nigerian Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said that the donation came at a very good time.
He said that Nigeria stopped vaccination on the 8th of July due to a lack of vaccines but with the donation, the vaccination of citizens would resume in earnest.
1.9 people have been vaccinated so far in Nigeria, according to data from Our World in Data
