Malta has reported zero new cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the first time this has happened since July 25, 2020.

As the country gradually eases off the months-long lockdown, with bars and restaurants allowed to reopen for the first time since October, the health ministry has announced that the nation has only 72 cases of Covid-19 with no record of new cases.

Malta has also been racing ahead with vaccinations, with 75 percent of the adult population receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.

The Mediterranean island nation has administered more than 550,000 vaccine doses so far, with 235,000 people — out of a population of around half a million — now fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, tourism has kicked off since June 1, although the country requires a negative coronavirus test result at the entry point.
