In 10yrs, Nigeria Unemployment Grew By Over 400 percent


According to data collected from the National Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate of Nigeria has grown by 445 percent in the last 10 years.

While the nation still combats economic instabilities within the year in view, the expectation by different governments to reduce unemployment has failed as the data obtained shows a steady increase in the rate between 2011 and 2020.

While the data shows a drop between 2012 and 2014, the figures increased in the subsequent years.

In 2011, 4 million were unemployed; 2012, 7.3 million; 2013, 7.1 million; 2014, 4.7 million; 2015, 8 million unemployed Nigerians

Also, in 2016, 11.5 million; 2017, 17.7 million. In the third quarter of 2018, 20.9 million Nigerians were unemployed.

While in the second quarter of 2020, 21.8 million Nigerians were recorded as unemployed with a labour force of 80.2 million.
