2021 Week 3: COVID-19 Cases Rise Over 11,000

Nigeria, in the third week of 2021, recorded a total of 11,177 cases of COVID-19, the highest weekly record since the beginning of the year.

On average, the country had over 1500 daily records of cases between January 15th and January 21st, 2020. According to Nigerian Center for Disease Control, the country had recorded a total number of 1867 on Friday, 15th of January.

This, however, dropped to 1544 and 1444 cases recorded on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

At the beginning of the week, NCDC reported a total of 1617 cases on Monday, 18th January. While 1301 and 1386 cases were reported on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Nigeria, however, smashed its record after reporting a total of 1964 cases on Thursday, the highest daily record. The total number of COVID-19 cases at the end of the week rose to 1116,655 with a death rate of 1485 and 83,830 discharged cases.
